White Cane Day

October 15

October 15 is White Cane Awareness Day: A day to recognize the independence and achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired while raising awareness about accessibility and the importance of safe, inclusive communities.

🦯 A white cane is more than a mobility tool. It’s a symbol of independence, confidence, and freedom.

White canes help people navigate the world on their own terms. But independence also depends on the world around us, from accessible sidewalks and safe crossings to public spaces designed with everyone in mind.

At The Arc of Nebraska, we believe accessibility is essential to building communities where EVERYONE has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive. Physical disabilities like blindness & hearing impairment matter, and can impact those within the I/DD community. Accessibility as a whole matters!

Independence isn’t just about where we can go. It’s about having the freedom to choose our own path.
