Train Talks: A Creative Writing & Performance Series: Workshop 1

August 19 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

All aboard! Do you have a burning passion, a fascinating hobby, or unique knowledge you’ve always wanted to share? Whether you are a lifelong train enthusiast or want to write about an entirely different track that sparks your interest, this inclusive, four-part workshop series is for you!

Designed for individuals affected by disabilities, Train Talks is all about finding your voice, fueling your creativity, and getting your stories moving in the right direction. No prior writing or public speaking experience is required—we will help you move your ideas from the platform to your destination.

Workshops 1 & 2: Laying the Tracks: The Writing Sessions
We will brainstorm, write, and polish your short creative and informational piece. Whether you are writing about locomotive history or sharing a different personal passion, we’ll help you keep the writing rolling and stay loco-motivated!

Workshop 3: Full Steam Ahead: The Performance Session
Learn how to share your words with confidence! We’ll practice reading aloud, pacing, and basic performance techniques in a supportive, low-pressure environment so you’re ready to take the stage.

The Final Destination: Showcase at The Durham Museum!
Celebrate your hard work and pull into the station for our grand finale! Participants will share their finished pieces with an audience of family, friends, and community members inside the historic Durham Museum.
