SUMMARY:Horseback Riding (Ages 12+)
DESCRIPTION:Giddy-up and get over to Platte River State Park for some horseback riding. We’ll hop in the saddle and enjoy a ride on a path through the woods of Platte River State Park. We have done this before and found the staff who work with the horses extremely knowledgeable. We will also be bringing members of our Outlook Adaptive Sports team for support. The ride lasts approximately 45 minutes. Each participant will ride as part of a large group but will be on their own horse. No experience is necessary\, but if you are uncomfortable around animals or cannot hold on and support yourself independently\, this may not be the right activity for you.\nParents of minors must meet Outlook staff at the Platte River State Park office to sign the required waiver.\nLimited transportation will be available for adults departing from and returning to Outlook before and after the horseback ride. We plan to leave Outlook by 12 p.m. and return around 2:45 p.m.\nIt can be a little intimidating at first\, but we encourage you to take a deep breath\, lean back\, and enjoy the ride! We’ve got your back\, even on horseback. Take in the feeling of the fall season and wrap yourself up in the wilderness that the state of Nebraska has to offer.

SUMMARY:The Sensory Yard\, Presented by The Holland Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Presented by The Holland Foundation\, The Sensory Yard invites visitors into an immersive world where curiosity\, movement\, rest\, and imagination unfold at their own pace. Blending sensory architecture\, participatory art\, and immersive storytelling\, this interactive installation encourages exploration without expectation. Every path is self-directed\, every experience optional\, creating an environment where wonder and nervous system regulation exist side by side. \nJourney through a series of thoughtfully designed sensory spaces\, each offering a unique invitation to engage. Find grounding in The Commons\, move freely in The Motion Room\, wander through the responsive beauty of The Light Forest\, retreat into the quiet comfort of The Cocoon\, dive into imaginative worlds in the Aquarium\, and leave your mark in The Workshop Room\, where the environment evolves through collective creativity. \nRather than asking visitors to perform or observe\, The Sensory Yard offers permission—to pause\, play\, create\, connect\, or simply be. Designed with accessibility\, emotional safety\, and sensory inclusion at its core\, the installation celebrates the many ways people experience the world and invites every visitor to discover what they need in the moment. \nNo tickets needed – this experience is free to the community during open hours. \n\n\n\nSchedule:\n\nSunday\, September 13\, 2026 through Sunday\, September 27\, 2026 \n\nSunday: 10 AM – 4 PM\nMonday: Closed\nTuesday: 10 AM – 5 PM\nWednesday: 10 AM – 5 PM\nThursday: 10 AM – 7 PM\nFriday: 10 AM – 7 PM\nSaturday: 10 AM – 7 PM

SUMMARY:TrainTalks: A Creative Writing & Performance Series: Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Join internationally acclaimed photographer Blair Bunting for an inspiring evening exploring creativity\, perspective\, and the stories that connect us. \nAn award-winning commercial photographer known for his portraits of professional athletes\, entertainers\, and global brands\, Bunting has built an extraordinary career by seeing the world differently. Drawing from his lived experience as an autistic artist\, he offers a unique perspective on creativity and observation. \nIn conjunction with the Common Senses Festival 2026 and The Durham Museum’s exhibition of Bunting’s train photography\, One-Track Mind\, this special presentation will explore his artistic journey\, the inspiration behind his train photography\, and how photography became both a creative outlet and a way of connecting more deeply with the world around him. \nPresented in partnership with Common Senses\, an organization dedicated to exploring and celebrating the uniqueness and commonalities of humanity through the arts\, science\, accessibility\, and disability acceptance\, this evening celebrates the many ways people experience\, interpret\, and share the world around them. \nBefore the lecture\, guests are invited to attend TrainTalks from 5:00 to 6:00 PM\, presented in partnership with the Nebraska Writers Collective. Inspired by the Common Senses Festival’s preferred interest track\, TrainTalks is the culmination of workshops in which train enthusiasts take the stage to share stories\, memories\, knowledge\, and personal experiences centered on their love of trains. Whether you’re a lifelong rail fan or simply curious to listen\, we invite you to TrainTalks to celebrate the joy of sharing passions and building community through storytelling.
